Rescue Me ID: 14-04-16-00191Lucy (female)
Lucy is sweet country girl in search of a family who wants an indoor canine kid with lots of love to give! Lucy is fully vetted, heartworm negative, current on vaccines and spayed. She is four years old. She has been raised with young children and other dogs. She is an indoor dog who loves to be with her human pack but also enjoys a good romp outdoors as well! She has had limited exposure to cats and apparently has a grudge with Foghorn Leghorn because she will chase chickens. Lucy's adoption fee will include a microchip since both beagles and labs have a tendency to follow their nose and can wander from home. A fenced-in yard is ... (Read More)preferred. Lucy is being fostered in a private residence. We are an all-volunteer organization, so please give us 24-48 hours to reply. For an application for Lucy, please e-mail [email protected] (Less) We CAAN (Companion Animal Advocacy Network) Otoe County Nebraska

Rescue Me ID: 14-04-08-00091Danerys 'Dani' (female)
If you are a Game of Thrones fan, then you'll recognize my name and its significance. I'm Danerys, (Dani for short, since who can pronounce 'Khaleesi?'). Like my namesake, I was left to wander unknown territory and could not find my home. I had to overcome high odds and many obstacles to get to my foster home. The vet thinks I may have encountered a skunk in my travels, as I smelled very un-queenly when I arrived at the high kill facility in southeast Nebraska. Thirty-six hours isn't much time, but fortunately, the rescue volunteers who took me in saw not only my beauty, but my gentle nature and intelligence. I seem to like some ... (Read More)cats and then although not aggressive towards cats I seem to 'focus' on them. I definitely will 'eye' squirrels and would probably chase them... The rescue volunteers think I am an American Pit Bull Terrier My vital statistics: Weight: 33 pounds (I took Jillian Michaels boot camp a little too seriously and I am too thin). Gender: female Color: Blonde, of course-I'm Danerys! (okay, with some white markings too) Since I look like an American Pit Bull Terrier, the rescue group is posting a link for you to read about general characteristics of my suspected breed: http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/virtual-pet-behaviorist/dog-behavior/truth-about-pit-bulls So, if you skipped the reading, here's what you need to know. I am small for my breed, but like any terrier, I need DAILY exercise. I am a terrier, which means I need a fence and a microchip, in case I get out. The microchip will be part of my adoption fee, but I do need a fence. I may be able to live in an apartment if you talk with the rescue group and convince them you can give me the play and exercise I need to be happy and healthy. Wandering 'at large' is what got me on death row!! A note from the human volunteers: Dani is fully vetted including vaccinations, spay, heartworm test, flea/tick and heartworm prevention. We do not know ANYTHING about Dani's history. If you are interested in possibly adopting Dani, we will happily talk with you and e-mail you an application. We are a small, rescue based in Neb City. We foster our dogs in private homes, we do not have a facility. We invest a lot of time, love, and funds to ensure our foster companions are healthy and happy, so we require a written application and a home visit to ensure a good person-animal-environment fit. Adoption fees are typically between $200-400 depending on the amount of vet care needed for our furry friends. (Less) We CAAN (Companion Animal Advocacy Network) Otoe County Nebraska

Rescue Me ID: 14-03-30-00370Roscoe (male)
Howdy! My name is Roscoe. No, not THAT one!! I am from Nebraska, not the south, unless you count southeastern Nebraska! I was in a high kill facility there and, I admit, I was sweating it. When you only have 36 hours things can look bleak. My family never showed up to claim me...good thing these rescue gals came to see me and decided I was going to be in their foster care. I am a big boy, weighing in at 81.5 pounds. I have a sweet, floppy face and handsome black, white, and brown markings. I am a pure bred Treeing Walker Coonhound. There are some things you need to know about me, so please Google my breed. So, if you skipped the ... (Read More)reading, you need to know most importantly, I'm a HOUND, which means, I follow my nose and that can get me into trouble. Therefore, I have to have a fence and a microchip. The microchip will be part of my adoption fee, but I do need a fence. If you have acreage, well, I would love to run but you gotta convince these little ladies I'm not going anywhere. Wandering 'at large' is what got me on death row!! My breed is known for its intelligence, loyalty, and friendly demeanor. In short, I love everyone! But, I do need an active home that will give me plenty of exercise and activities. I love Kongs or other toys where I have to work for my reward. A note from the rescue gals: Roscoe is fully vetted including vaccinations, neuter, heartworm test, flea/tick and heartworm prevention. We do have confirmation that Roscoe is a Treeing Walker Coonhound, but have no other information about his history. If you are interested in possibly adopting Roscoe, we will happily talk with you and e-mail you an application. We are a small, rescue based in Neb City. We foster our dogs in private homes, we do not have a facility. We invest a lot of time, love, and funds to ensure our foster companions are healthy and happy, so we require a written application and a home visit to ensure a good person-animal-environment fit. Due to Roscoe's large size, he may be too large for a home with small children, although he is extremely gentle. Adoption fees are typically between $200-400 depending on the amount of vet care needed for our furry friends. Contact for application or questions: [email protected] If you can't adopt Roscoe, but are willing to sponsor him, we are attempting to raise the funds for a dental so he has pearly whites to complement his good looks! Rescue Me ID: 14-03-30-00367Oz (male)
Hi! Are you my forever family?! I'm Oz, a nod to the obvious without being TOO overt. I don't know how I ended up with 36 hours left to live. I was wandering along the yellow brick road, looking for Dorothy and my cousin, avoiding winged monkeys and broomsticks; and the next thing I know, I am in a cage hearing things like 'one day left.' I was in a high kill facility in southeast Nebraska. I don't know why my former family didn't show up to claim me, but I am super happy these rescue folks showed up. The rescue volunteers think I am a Cairn Terrier. My vital statistics: Weight: 12 pounds Gender: male Color: Black and tan, wiry ... (Read More)coat Appearance: Adorable, especially my pointy ears! Since I look like a Cairn Terrier, the rescue group is posting a link for you to read about general characteristics of my suspected breed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cairn_Terrier So, if you skipped the reading, here's what you need to know. I am small, but active, so I need DAILY exercise. I was genetically bred to burrow after small game, so I might dig. Oz is fully vetted including vaccinations, neuter, heartworm test, flea/tick and heartworm prevention. We do not know ANYTHING about Oz's history. If you are interested in possibly adopting Oz, we will happily talk with you and e-mail you an application. Oz loves everyone! He lives with 2 dogs, 2 cats and is exposed to two large dogs in his extended foster family. We prefer not to adopt small dogs to families with small children under 6-7 as this is typically not a good fit. Oz is FAST and will dart out a door if a child happened to open a door. This is one reason we are requiring a microchip and will include this as part of his adoption fee. If you are Oz's palace in the Emerald City, please e-mail us at [email protected]. Rescue Me ID: 14-03-26-00211Rose (female)
Rose is named after Rose O'Neill, a Nebraskan who founded the Kewpie doll. Her name seemed fitting given her sweet face! Halfy, is Leela's daughter and is an 'Abita' (a bit of this and a bit of that) but based on her markings, we went with 'Pointer mix.' True to her name, she has 3 sweet girls and 3 precious boys (Cody, Brando, Cabela, Bess, Grace and Rose). Their paternal history is unknown, but we suspect an English Pointer that roams the neighborhood. These canine kids are almost 8 weeks old and will be available for adoption the week of 04/21/14. Vetting at 8 weeks will include deworming, first DHHP vaccine and bordetella ... (Read More)vaccines. They will require a rabies vaccine and spay/neuter at 12 weeks. The adoption fee is $150 and we can also microchip your new canine kid at our cost. We can arrange to spay/neuter a puppy; the adoption fee is $200 to cover the additional vetting. We know this is a long-term commitment and many people prefer to utilize their own vet for spay/neuter at 12 weeks of age. We are willing to be flexible with you. Please understand we volunteer long hours to reduce pet overpopulation, therefore, we would ask that you pre-pay for your new fur kid's surgery prior to adoption. Although we don't know their daddy, these puppies most likely have characteristics of 'sporting group breed' in them, which means they follow their noses! Therefore, we prefer homes with a fenced-in yard but will consider exceptions with satisfactory justification of how the family will appropriately and safely exercise these babies. A written application and home visit are required. Questions to ask yourself: -Do I have the time and motivation to house train a puppy? -Do I have the time to provide the play, exercise and attention a puppy needs? -Am I okay with the 'X factors' meaning we cannot predict the size or weight of these puppies when grown? These little ones personify cute and would be a wonderful addition to any home. They are well-socialized and have been exposed to other dogs, outdoor cats, and children over 8 years of age. These puppies are just too young to co-habitate with young children. Our adoption fees in this case are going towards vet care for 13 puppies, vetting both mother dogs, subsidizing the spay of another female dog in the home, and fixing NINE cats!! We named this group of fur kids for famous Nebraskans; from the silver screen to social reform, our great state has representation in many halls of fame!
